Nestled in the Andes at elevations above 1,800 meters, Peruvian coffee is among the most underrated in the world. Our Valor Reserve — Peru changes that narrative — a medium roast that delivers exceptional clarity, sweetness, and balance in every cup. At Borinquen Valor Coffee, our Peru is selected with the same intentionality that defines everything we do: veteran-owned, heritage-driven, and committed to quality.
Where It Comes From
Peru's coffee-growing regions — Cajamarca, Amazonas, and San Martín — sit in the cloud forests of the northern Andes. The combination of high altitude, rich organic soils, and a cool, misty climate creates ideal conditions for slow cherry development. The result is a bean with natural sweetness, bright acidity, and a clean, complex cup profile that rewards careful roasting.
Tasting Notes
Our Peru is a medium roast that lets the origin shine. Expect notes of milk chocolate, caramel, red apple, and a gentle floral brightness. The body is medium and silky, with a clean, sweet finish that makes it endlessly drinkable. It's approachable enough for everyday brewing, yet complex enough to reward a slow, attentive cup.
How to Brew It
Peru's natural sweetness and balanced acidity make it one of the most versatile origins in our lineup:
- Pour-Over (V60 or Chemex): The ideal method to highlight the floral and fruit notes. Use a medium-fine grind, 1:15 ratio, water at 200°F, and a 30-second bloom before a slow, controlled pour.
- Drip: A medium grind produces a consistently excellent everyday cup. The caramel sweetness comes through beautifully without any bitterness.
- AeroPress: Try a medium-fine grind with a 2-minute steep for a concentrated, syrupy cup that highlights the chocolate and caramel notes.
