Where It Comes From
Uganda sits at the heart of East Africa's Great Rift Valley, where volcanic soils, high altitudes, and equatorial rainfall create ideal growing conditions. Our Uganda beans are grown on the slopes of Mount Elgon, one of Africa's largest volcanoes, at elevations above 1,800 meters. That altitude slows the cherry's development, concentrating sugars and building complexity in the cup.
Tasting Notes
Expect a bold, full-bodied cup with notes of dark chocolate, blackcurrant, and a hint of cedar. The finish is long and clean, with a brightness that sets it apart from other African origins. It's a coffee that rewards attention — the kind of cup you sit with, not rush through.
How to Brew It
Uganda's density and structure make it versatile across brew methods:
- Pour-Over (V60 or Chemex): Use a medium-coarse grind, a 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio, and water at 200°F. A 30-second bloom unlocks the aromatics before a slow, steady pour.
- French Press: Coarse grind, 4-minute steep, then press slowly. This method amplifies the body and chocolate notes.
- Drip: Medium grind works well for everyday brewing. The Uganda holds up beautifully with or without milk.
