The Story Behind Bali Blue
"Bali Blue" refers to the wet-hulled processing method used on the island, which gives the beans a distinctive blue-green hue before roasting. The coffee is grown at elevations between 1,200 and 1,700 meters on the slopes of Mount Batukaru and Mount Agung — two of Bali's sacred volcanoes. The rich volcanic soil, combined with the island's tropical climate and traditional farming practices, produces a bean with remarkable depth.
Tasting Notes
Bali Blue is a coffee of contrasts — earthy and smooth, yet with a surprising brightness. Expect notes of dark chocolate, roasted cedar, and a subtle herbal earthiness, with a syrupy body and a clean, lingering finish. It's the kind of coffee that feels grounding — perfect for a slow morning or a focused afternoon.
How to Brew It
The wet-hulled processing gives Bali Blue a lower acidity and heavier body, which shines in these brew methods:
- French Press: The ideal method. Use a coarse grind, steep for 4 minutes, and press slowly. The full immersion amplifies the syrupy body and earthy depth.
- Drip / Auto-Drip: A medium grind works beautifully for everyday brewing. The lower acidity makes it easy-drinking with or without cream.
- Cold Brew: Bali Blue's earthy, chocolatey profile translates exceptionally well to cold brew. Steep coarsely ground beans in cold water for 18–24 hours for a smooth, rich concentrate.
